The large number of Parisian museums demonstrates the important place that culture occupies in the French capital. They offer an amazing variety of themes and collections, as well as a dazzling diversity in the architectural styles of the buildings that house them. To help you discover this exceptional heritage of the City of Light, the Hotel Doisy Etoile offers excellent accommodation in the eclectic and trendy 16th arrondissement. Of the museums of Paris, the Fondation Louis Vuitton is certainly one of the most remarkable and well worth a visit, especially in view of its current exhibition schedule.
Louis Vuitton is a luxury brand known around the world. The building designed to house the brand’s art foundation naturally had to live up to this reputation. It does so in a big way! Located at the northern end of the Bois de Boulogne, the building housing this amazing art museum and cultural centre is a masterpiece by Frank Gehry. Having already designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and the Cinémathèque Française, the American architect imagined a ship’s wind-blown sails made entirely of glass. It took 3,600 custom-cut glass panels to form the 12 ‘sails’ and 8 years of work to complete this gem.
On the programme: Cindy Sherman and her work
The Fondation Louis Vuitton is dedicated to contemporary art. Several exhibitions are currently taking place in its 11 galleries. Until January 3rd, 2021, Cindy Sherman is in the spotlight. Discover more than 170 works by the American artist and photographer, who herself participated in the exhibition’s scenography. The foundation offers thematic night tours in the company of a guide who will help illuminate the nuances of the works displayed.
To engage in a dialogue with Sherman's oeuvre, the Crossing Views exhibition takes place in parallel. This is a selection of works that resonate with the themes evoked by Cindy Sherman and features such creators as Samuel Fosso, Andy Warhol and Louise Bourgeois.
